Toronto Area PM101 Facebook Challenge (for a free book)

PM101 in TOWhoa, that’s a mouthful, isn’t it? Well, it’s about time for another contest where I give away an autographed copy of my book, yes? OK! Here’s the plan:

This F.I.L.M. blog is also available on the “virtual porch” of Facebook. So, let’s build the online community there, but also let’s connect virtual life to real life! At the end of May, I’ll be in Toronto where I am planning a speaking/booksigning event (details are TBA).

Here’s my challenge to you:

If you’re already on Facebook, invite your friends – especially Toronto area film friends – to “like” my FB book page/blog. If you’re not on Facebook, come on over and join us by choosing the “like” button on my page at: http://www.facebook.com/DebPatzBooks

If... we gather a FB community there of over 200 by mid-May (when my trip starts), then I’ll give a free copy of my latest book “Film Production Management 101: Management & Coordination in a Digital Age” specially autographed to a random Toronto area FB fan at the “real porch” (the speaking event) in Toronto.

So, it’s now over to you! See you on Facebook… and then in Toronto!

Cheers,
Deb

F.I.L.M. Blog: Lookin’ Back & Lookin’ Forward

The 2010 stats are in and the F.I.L.M. Blog is doing great! Thank you for making it so and let me share some nuggets with you:

Deb’s F.I.L.M. Blog at WordPress (the host):

  • WordPress’ Blog Health-o-Meter: “Awesome!”
  • Included in Bachelor’s Degree.org’s 60 best blogs for Aspiring Screenwriters – Filmmaker section
  • Most of the favourite blog posts appear to deal with sourcing free information… the top one being the Free Film Budget by co-MWP author Deke Simon. Well, I hear you and will bring you more “free” again this year. No worries!

Deb’s F.I.L.M. Blog & social community at Facebook:

  • growing community from at least 7 countries around the world; a great place to connect – like a virtual porch
  • Held some great contests in the last year and gave away books and budgeting pencils. we’ll have to do that again! Yes?

Deb’s books – published by MWP Books:
As you may know, this blog – as well as the film resource links at debpatz.com – are companions to my books on film production management and coordination.

  • My book “Film Production Management 101” was one of the top selling MWP books in the last quarter of 2010 (the new edition, as you may know, came to market mid/late last year) – thank you very much for your part in making it happen!
  • Deb’s books are now available in at least 27 countries around the world! Wow. My books are more travelled than me!

Thanks again for your part in the success of Deb’s F.I.L.M. Blog (and books)! Please continue to spread the word! And here’s looking forward to more posts, more connecting, more F-un, I-nspiration, L-ife & M-anagement!

Cheers & a good shoot to you,
Deb

Meet Deb Patz at Women in Film Vancouver Networking Breakfast

The PM may write the budget and monitor cost reports, but it’s the whole crew who is spending production’s money… so doesn’t that make you wonder what – as a crew member – you should know about production budgets?

Deb with PM101 2ndEdBright and early on Tuesday, September 21, I’ll have the honour of being the guest speaker at the Women in Film Networking Breakfast in Vancouver. I’m going to talk about what the crew (and PM’s) need to know about production budgeting… and spending. I’m also going to cover what’s creative about the PM’s job, budget hot spots, why the PM hangs out on the set, plus discuss career planning your way to – or past – production management.

The event is open to members and non-members… so if you’re in the Vancouver area, I hope can make it!

Cheers & all the best,
Deb

… so, come and join us on the “virtual porch” of FB! What does “getting your ducks in a row” mean to you (in this film industry)?

Cheers & a good prep to you!

Film Production Management 101 – What’s New About It?

A second edition… what’s new about it, you ask? Well, let me tell you!

“Film Production Management 101: Management & Coordination for a Digital Age”

Since 2002 there have been a lot of changes in the tools we use to produce film and television. It’s definitely time for an update to the book! Digital is the first choice for filmmaking format with film stock coming now in second. That alone is a 180 degree turnaround. This new edition only starts with that 180 degree turnaround in coming up-to-date! Inside you’ll also find a whole new chapter on publicity in this digital age, and lots of new information on money-saving tools like previs, and ISAN and much more.

The new edition is over 500 pages now… so, I guess in short: it’s bigger, it’s better; and it’s written for today’s production world!

As for what’s the same? It’s still a terrific on-the-job resource for both Production Managers and Coordinators. Not only that… when you look at Amazon, it’s all for the same price! Whattadeal.

So, read it and make up your own mind, and then share your thoughts with others on Amazon.

I also invite you to connect with me and the PM101 community on Facebook at DebPatzBooks. At the moment there’s a “Getting Your Ducks In A Row” Free Book Virtual Event going on. “Like” the page, write on the wall and/or post a picture of your interpretation of “getting your ducks in a row” for a chance to win the first autographed copy of the new book! Looking forward to connecting with you there!

Cheers,
Deb
